This was the race of my life. I had to win it, to take it all. It was the final lap of the velodrome and it was neck to neck. I was wondering whether I was going to choke or not, or hopefully my rival would.
We were sprinting around the lower track of the timber oval as fast as we could go. We both knew that there was only going to be one winner. But then the most extraordinary thing happened, I won my first gold medal. Then I thanked my rival and said, “That was one phenomenal race.”

This was a great way to use the challenge word. I think it is phenomenal how cyclists can stay upright when they race around those velodromes. I was watching tonight and an Australia cyclist fell because the handles came off his bike. It was terrible; thankfully they were able to start again. Well done.
