One night, there was a big bang. It was so loud that all the dogs in the street were barking, and I woke up with a fright. I went to the window and there was nothing but clouds with the moonlight. I couldn’t see anything, so I went back to bed.
Shortly after going back to bed, I heard another explosion, but this time I saw a flash. There were little bits of different colours. Then I knew it was fireworks. With relief, I went to the kitchen and got an ice-cold glass of water and went back to bed.

What an excellent description of fireworks, James. You really capture just how frightening they can be, especially if you are not really sure what they are. I love the way you describe the view from the window ‘there was nothing but clouds with the moonlight.’ I also like the way your story is divided very clearly into two halves and the neat ending. The ice-cold glass of water contrasts so well with the explosive fireworks.
