Crackle, crackle, the fire was burning the land and spreading quickly.
The sirens on the firetruck roared and the firefighters called out to people who were trapped in the fire. Many people rushed their way to the fishing dock, but some stayed to help others. Ships, helicopters and aeroplanes came to take families to safety. Many families and friends looked at their homes and would miss them.
Most of Kangaroo Island was burnt down to dust. Many of the animals were injured or killed but some survived. Some houses survived after the fire finished but it was a terrible moment in time.
